Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president as well as the highest ranking female official of the United America. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has been attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017, and also as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010, she was appointed Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the second African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is best known for her direct questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
